Iskander Dekker: bass

At the age of 12 I bought my first bass guitar (Hohner P-bass) but I had no idea what it actually was. Lessons were boring and I never praticed. By chance I ran intro a drummer and a guitarist at high school. That’s when I got infected with music! This was so cool! It was just like a real band!

Since then I play BASS. I already quit lessons and learned from guitarplayers and drummers and Bass player Magazines. At high school I’ve played with several bands and projects around Leiden and The Hague (amongst others: ‘Frantic’ and ‘Be Aware’). I was influenced by rock, metal and progressive-rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Dream Theatre, Rush, King’s X, Whistler Courbois Whistler and Pagan’s Mind. Jazz and fusion also attracted me a lot: Anthony Jackson, Micheal Manring en John Patitucci.

In ’97 drummer Bart de Koning invited me with his band ‘Wons II Mennie’. Unfortunately he had to stop due to a wrist problem. More members came and went and the band was renamed to ‘D’lemma’. (you should recognise this name by now!) On the side I also play with a fusion trio called ‘Herman’ (drums: Herman Heijboer, guitar: Wim Crince). But by now I play for over ten years with ‘D’lemma’ and I love it so much, I hope to keep this going forever! ...

So maybe I should start taking lessons again, do you know a good teacher?

I wish a lot of bass to you all, Iskander
