When I was 13 years old I bought my first electric
guitar and took guitar lessons by Marcel Singor.
My influences where mostly in that time Metallica and
later Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
When I was about 16 years old a few friends and me
formed my first band called High Voltage and it was
more fun than making music. Later on I formed an other
band called Timefly, at that point I was more influenced
by Zakk Wylde's wicked guitar sounds. We went in the
studio to record a 3-track demo. After some gig's I
decided to quit Timefly due to some member disagrements.
After that I did'nt do much for a few years, I mostly
played for a hobby at home. My musical preferences changed a bit at that point and I started to listen more to progressive rock bands. I became acquainted by bands like Dream Theater and Pagan's Mind. I was always singing along with me CD's and discoverd that I could reach the same high notes that Labrie sung. So I thought it would be nice to make a musical switch from guitarist to a vocalist.
At that point I noticed an add on the internet from a band called D'lemma, who where searching for a new singer. I sent an email and was invited for an audition in Leiden were they rehearsed. I auditioned singing two songs from Dream Theater, Lifting shadows of a dream and Peruvian Skies. Surprisingly they wanted me to be the new singer in D'lemma. And so we rehearsed a lot in Leiden and later on we moved to Den Haag, where we have our own rehearsal
room now.
We are now at the point that we want to go onstage and concentrate on our new Project Cottonfields wich I wrote the lyrics for. It's a story divided into eight songs telling it's tale. We hope to finish the project this year and go into the studio to record a full length CD. We hope to create the right sensation and sphere for each individual song so that you can realy hear the emotion of the story.
Okay, for now this is it and keep an eye open for our coming gig's!
Greetz,
Fred
